MARBLEHEAD: electronic music 1990-2000

Gardner's CD Marblehead features seven electronic pieces composed from 1990 to 2000. Included on the CD are the ever popular Marblehead for sampled toy marbles on tape, and the thunderstorm meditation Sleeping Weather, as well as Shifting Sands for computer-generated tape, Waterbourne, Framework, Picking Up and Excavation. Several of these compositions were originally created for modern dance, commissioned by choreographers Sharon Mansur, Nancy Havlik and Daniel Burkholder.

Although this music is electronic and was indeed created using tools that plug in, all of the sound sources were gathered from the "unplugged" world around us. Water, wood, metal, wind, birds, and many small percussion instruments are just a few of the sounds that make up the aural landscapes of Marblehead.
