barcelona updates

barcelona update #2 - march 2003
Queridos Amigos,

Well, it's been an awfully long time since the previous update, and since many of you are wondering what's up, I will make every effort to condense the last few months of life into a nutshell.

Let's begin with the musical side of life, shall we? Happily, it seems that I have a European distributor for my Marblehead CD! Now you can visit the Arsonal Centre per a les Difusió de Artes Sonores online, order Marblehead in Spanish and even pay for it in euros. Yahoo!

December: a special "tape alone remix" of my marimba and electronics piece "Ayehli" was presented in the En Red O Soundscapes festival at the Centro de Cultura Contemporaneo de Barcelona. Any museum with a music festival where you come in whenever you please and lounge on plush carpets and squishy pillows is okay by me!!

January: took part in a performance of composer Brenda Hutchinson's piece "How Do You Get To Carnegie Hall?", along with some local pianists, a few brave audience members, two very sweet 8-year olds and the guy who composed the music for the '92 Olympics! Que Chulo!

Coming up on March 17, "Ayehli" for marimba and sampled sounds will be premiered at the Corcoran Gallery in DC, with the marvelous Barry Dove on marimba. DC folks mark your calendars!!

Other things.... new trombone piece, "Snapdragon" is all done & snug in the hands of trombonist extraordinaire Monique Buzzarté. I am now hard at work on a new tidbit for guitar and electronics for a performance in (gasp) May by Enrique Malo (yes that's really his name!)... plenty of other treats in store.stay tuned! Of course you can always check out my web site for all the gory details (www.jigsawmusic.org).

As far as language goes, my Spanish continues to improve - sometimes I even know what's going on! Have just begun a class to speed up the process, which is proving to be buenissimo, plus it is rather comforting to know that there are at least 10 other people in the city who screw up their grammar as often as I do.

What else, what else.... beginning to really meet people, and starting to learn the nooks and crannies of the city - cafes, shops, etc. Very nice, all that. And the sightseeing is endless! The dragon wrapped around the big iron entrance gate of Gaudi's Pedralbes pretty much rocks my world, as does the lobby of the Palau National de Musica Catalana. Basically? Things are going excellently, seems like.

Okay, I guess that was more a big walnut shell than the peanut I intended.thanks for reading! Visitors always welcome - it's worth it just for the olives.
